A Girl and Her Yarn...

When I was a little girl I used to watch my grandmother knit. It was her favourite hobby. Gramma taught me how to finger crochet, the feeling of the yarn running through my fingers felt so relaxing. I would sit there for hours creating this long chain of yarn. When the ball of yarn had run out, I asked her what I can do with what I had made. She would tell me to rip it out and start over again. I see now this was probably a “babysitting” technique to keep me busy but I didn’t mind at all because I was developing a love of yarn and the craft of knitting.

Years later, I asked my mom to teach me how to knit & crochet properly and she gave me the basics to start making blankets. With some working knowledge of knitting I practised and learned everything I could on the topic. I become obsessed with knitting and yarn.

In 2011, I became a certified knitting instructor and started teaching classes at my local Michael’s store in the evenings as a part-time job. I really enjoy teaching students and watching them begin their own journey as a knitter. Just seeing the joy in their faces when they would finish a project and want to start a new one right away was such a reward.

Knitting Obsessed...

Knitting became a part of my daily routine. I would sit in the evenings and knit, trying out new projects and writing my own patterns, I was making a lot of gifts for friends and family, and from that people started to request that I make something for them from a pattern they would find online or a gift I had given. I loved seeing their reaction when they would get the finished piece.

I decided to start Gibson & Grey in August of 2016. I opened an Etsy Shop, and started posting on social media. The response was wonderful, I was knitting so much that I asked my best friend to start helping me out. As another lover of knitting she was happy to. We have sold our items at craft shows and started to get a little local following. I am so grateful to my clients for the support over the last 3 years.

We will continue to take you on our journey with the introduction of our website and blog. There will be new patterns released regularly. We will still have handmade items to order along with knitting kits, classes and needles.

Thank you for your continuing support of Gibson & Grey.
